Bespoke Blading
NanoBlading.

What is NanoBlading.

NanoBlading is a form of semi-permanent makeup that allows you to create perfectly groomed, filled in brows that last for 12-18 months. Brows are created using  hand  etched strokes with a tiny fine tipped blade which are designed to mimic real hairs. Less aggressive and ‘drawn on’ than other types of  permanent makeup,  Micrblading is often referred to as ‘eyebrow embroidery’ so the effect is much more natural with more of a bespoke, feathered finish. We spoke to NanoBlading expert & trainer Hayley Finch what to expect.

Before Blading.

When you arrive at your appointment you will be given a consultation form, which includes a comprehensive questionnaire, and confirms your suitability for the procedure. Once we have determined you are in good health and happy  to go ahead with the treatment you will be taken to a treatment room and a picture will be taken of the brow area, then topical anaesthetic cream will be applied to the area, Hayley advises that it is very difficult to work without any pain relief she says  “It would be too painful for the clients which means I wouldn’t be able to get the precision right.”  Next, your brows will be tided up and shaped of any stray hairs, then the facial dimensions will be measured and the brow bone will be assessed, before the shape & placement of the brow being  drawn using a china marker, it is important that this part of the procedure Is precise and Hayley makes sure that the brow shape is perfectly designed for each individual and that all the decisions are made with both Hayley's exert advise and the wishes of the respective client, So it really is a totally “bespoke” experience.

To choose the right shade of pigment  for you, you’ll probably have a few options swatched on your skin. “If you’re not sure, go for lighter option,” she advises. “You can always go for the darker one when it comes to your top-up, around 4-6 weeks later.” If you’re a little taken aback by the strength of the colour straight after, don’t worry. “Expect around a 40% fade in intensity after about a week” . “It’s usually at the top-up appointment when brows get perfected because we can tweak everything accordingly.”

Applying the Pigment

Finally it’s the NanoBlading itself, which consists of lots of small paper cuts being made on the skin underneath the hairs using a tiny blade. Pigment is then implanted inside and smoothed on top. Thanks to the numbing cream the procedure itself is mildly uncomfortable as opposed to painful, but watch out for the scratching noise, which can sound a little disconcerting.” You might find you bleed during the procedure, that’s totally normal, and if you find your left side more painful than the right – there’s a reason: “The left side is where the heart is and where blood is pumped around body from. It can make it more uncomfortable for people and it can bleed more,” says Suman. Once the ink has been on for around five minutes, it’s wiped off and a silicone gel sealant is smoothed on over the top to stop any germs getting into your freshly filled-in brows.

What to do next

NO MOISTURE! NO WATER! NO SWEAT! NO SUN! For 10 days.
The best results come from doing the following;
Day 1 - 10
Step 1.
Gently dab the area with a cool boiled water & a damp cotton pad to remove all the lymph and previously applied cream. Cleaning with water is only necessary on the first day of treatment.
Step 2.
Apply a very thin layer of Skin Candy with a clean q-tip, avoid using your fingers.
Step 3.
Repeat the above process 2 times on the 1st day to keep the wound clean and avoid scab formation.
Step 4.
In the evening repeat steps 1 & 2 then apply the patches supplied to wear overnight, this is for the first night only.
Step 5.
Skin Candy then can be applied 2-3 times per day for 7- 10 days after your treatment.
The absolute best results come from keeping your brows extremely DRY for the next 10 days! Keeping them dry makes them retain more detail, better colour, and more crisp strokes, so it's worth it :) It sounds tricky- but can be done if you're mindful of it. Here's how...

Keep your face directly out of the shower stream & do your best to carefully wash hair and keep face as dry as possible. Keep clean, dry paper towels on hand to pat dry if they accidentally get moist. Also keep showers brief, as too much steam can harm brows as well.

When washing your face, be sure not to splash water onto your face like we normally do. Instead use a washcloth or disposable cleansing wipe to wash AROUND the brows, making sure they stay dry :)
Do not apply any cosmetics on your brows for AT LEAST 10 days. If your skin starts to feel tight and dry around day 7 post treatment, you can use a small amount of skin candy which has been supplied in your aftercare, please do so sparingly.

No heavy exercising or sweating for at least 10 days post procedure. If you want the best colour and detail retention, this is crucial.  After 10 days you may wash your face normally, including your brows! with a gentle face wash.

What to expect now

Immediately following your procedure, the bladed area will appear to be darker and bolder in colour, more sharply defined or even have a more filled in appearance. This can last up to a week after the treatment while the initial healing process takes place. The treated area may feel a bit like sunburn afterwards but there should be minimal discomfort and minimal redness.

During the initial healing period, there may be scabbing, flaking or peeling of the skin. If that happens, do not pick, and allow the scab or dry skin to come off on its own. This is very important!

If scabs come off prematurely, the pigment will come out with it!

The complete healing process takes approximately 4 weeks at which time the true colour if your brows will be clear. During this process, your brows will soften. Be patient, even if you think too much colour has been lost, as your skin is still regenerating and naturally exfoliating.

MICROBLADED BROWS GO THROUGH MANY PHASES WHILE HEALING! CHECK IT OUT SO YOU KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT....
Day.1.
Finely detailed, slight redness
Day.2-4.
They become darker and more filled in looking as they form a light protective layer or scab. This is only temporary- don't panic!
Day.5-12.
The protective layer naturally exfoliates, peels and flakes away over the course of several days as your skin heals underneath it. The freshly healed skin is white and has a waxy coating, making it appear that the brows are too light. Be patient! Expect to have a feeling of disappointment, don’t worry this will not last for long
Day.10-30.
After 10 days you may use brow makeup very gently if you need it. The colour will slowly come back to life and bloom back to the surface as that new, white skin settles in and heals. Wait at least 4 weeks to see the true colour, as it will take on new strength.  A minimum of 4 weeks is needed before your touch-up/adjustment can be done. Your second appointment is to boost your shape and to touch up any light spots Your pigment shade Is recorded, in case we to adjust the colour for the best results.
This is a 2-step process. Brows look really finished after the 2nd appointment.

What not to do.

You may shower or bathe normally, but avoid getting any soaps, shampoos or water on them as this can be detrimental to the bonding process that must take place for the pigment to stabilize in the dermis.

DO NOT pick or scratch at the dry skin/flakiness; let the skin fall off naturally. Picking can cause scarring and premature loss of pigment.

IMPORTANT: Once the flakes have fallen off, a shiny layer of healing skin will completely cover the hair strokes. It may appear as though the area has completely disappeared. This is just new skin forming. Within 1-2 weeks, the hair strokes will slowly reappear at a lighter shade as your skin regenerates.

DO NOT apply make-up to the tattooed area for the first 10 days. Cosmetics of any kind may interfere with the healing process. After 10 days its fine if you need to gently apply makeup to any light spots.

DO NOT tint or dye the area for one month following the procedure.

DO NOT apply any anti-acne products (e.g. Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid.

DO NOT apply any anti-aging products or facial products containing Alpha Hydroxyls (AHAs), Retin-A, Lactic or Glycolic Acids

DO NOT thread, wax, or use hair removal products on the treated area while healing.

DO NOT exercise and/or excessive sweating one day prior to getting tattooed and for 10 days after. Heavy sweating will cause the hair strokes to blur and detail to be lost.

NO NOT expose to the sun, swimming pools, Jacuzzis, saunas for two weeks.

DO NOT soak your face underwater in a bathtub or allow the shower to spray directly in your face for two weeks.

On going care.

Exposure to the sun over time can cause fading and discolouration of the pigment. Once completely healed, I recommend applying sunscreen daily on the treated area. Wear large sunglasses and a hat for further protection. Rinse and dry the area thoroughly when in contact with chlorine.

Glycolic acid, retinols, AHA's, anti-aging lotions and serums, microdermabrasion, chemical face peels and laser treatments must be kept away from the Nanobladed area as continued use could lighten or discolour the pigment.

If you are having laser resurfacing or laser hair removal after your brows have healed, please inform your technician. Continue at your own discretion. Laser procedures may darken, lighten, or discolour the area.

Once the treated area is completely healed, any changes or additions that need to be made can be done at your follow-up appointment no sooner than 4 weeks later. It takes about 4 weeks for the brow area’s skin cells to completely regenerate and settle in.

There are no implied or written guarantees if you do not take care of your brows, and everyone will heal a little differently.
  • For the next week use normal soapy water or a pH balanced cleanser to wash your face to get off any debris that collects. Don’t worry, it won’t get rid of the pigment
  • To avoid irritation pat your brows dry, don’t drag them
  • No tanning, swimming in chlorine or sweating in gym for a week afterwards
  • Expect a little bit of flakiness or itchiness while your brows are healing. To soothe, apply pure coconut or rapeseed oil on to brows as many times as required
